The mini sprint takes place at Ocean Lakes Family Campground, on January 1, 2016. The 4-time National RV Park of the Year is located in Myrtle Beach, SC at the intersection of Hwy. 544 and Hwy 17. It provides a great location for this event. The mini tri will consist of a short indoor swim, an 8 mile bike, and a 1.6 mile run, all taking place on Ocean Lakes 310-acre oceanfront resort-style camping environment.
The Ocean Lakes New Year Triathlon is an USAT sanctioned but more importantly its a HAPPY NEW YEAR HAVE FUN RACE. The race will begin with a time trial swim start. The swim is short, about 100 yards, and will take place in an indoor pool. Competitors will be seeded by submitted swim time prior to the race. My basic feeling concerning the swim is that it will be just long enough to get you wet so when you go outside your first thought will be “Happy New Year!” Hibernation is over. Pool water temps should be in the 70’s.
The swim, bike, and run courses will not change in 2016.
There are several turns, and directional signs and/or volunteers will be present at intersections.
The run course is a one loop, relatively flat, 1.6-mile course.
Historically, January weather conditions, at that time of year, features high temperatures in the 50’s, with lows in the 30's.
Be prepared, the race will go on whether it’s snowing, raining, or unseasonably warm.

Race resignation will only take place online. There will be no race day registration. Race registration will close on December 30, 2016, at 11:59 pm.
The transition is the nerve center for all pre-race activities and everything you need to race and rack your bike can be picked up at the transition area on raceday, Friday, January 1, 2016, 7am.
The Ocean Lakes Sprint Triathlon is a USAT sanctioned event so USAT Rules will apply.
USAT members-You are required to show your USAT License card and a government issued, valid Photo ID prior to start the registration process.
Non-USAT members – You are required to show a Photo ID and purchase either a one-day or an annual USAT membership prior to starting the registration process.
All participants are expected to pick up their own packets. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please check your bag to be sure you have the correct Race #.
Your race packet will have the following items in it:
RACE NUMBERS: we will provide you with three sets of numbers which must be put in the right place:
• Bib number – the larger rectangular number that must be worn during the run. Most athletes attach it to their race suit or race belt with safety pins, which we will provide you. Please make sure it’s in front of you during the run and when you cross the finish line!
• Bike number – a smaller rectangular number with adhesive on the back that must be attached to your bike and visible from both sides. It must be affixed to your bike before you enter the transition area on Saturday for bike check-in.
• Helmet number – a small rectangular sticker that must be firmly affixed to the front of your helmet.
SWIM CAP: Caps are not provided, it is you choice to wear one or not.

OPTIONAL Course Briefings will be held on January 1, 2016, take place inside the registration building approximately 30 minutes before the race start. This meeting is NOT mandatory, but will provide athletes with information about the course, race rules and regulations. We recommend that ALL first time triathletes attend a briefing.
The transition area opens at 7:00 time on Race Day Tuesday, for bike racking, and will close 20 minutes prior to the race start. All bikes must be racked on Race Day Thursday. There will not be overnight security to guard all equipment. Restrooms are easily accessible to the transition area.
Bikes cannot leave the transition area after they have been racked. Any bike not properly displaying the bike frame number will be removed from the transition area. Access to the transition area will not be allowed until the last athlete has started the run.
TRANSITION AREA CONDUCT: For safety reasons, you are not permitted to ride your bike into or out of the Transition area. You must walk, run, or carry your bike to the mounting and dismount designated area. Please watch out for other athletes as you move through the Transition area and follow the instructions of race officials and volunteers. All race gear must be labeled and stowed neatly under your bike space or adjacent to it. You must know the course and flow of traffic in the Transition area. All bikes should be removed from the Transition area as soon as possible after the race.
All athletes will receive a race t-shirt and water bottle. All finishers will receive a Finishers medal. Top three finishers male and female will receive a trophy.

A refund of your race entry fee, less a $15 administrative charge, will be made by check upon receipt before December 15, 2014, of a written or emailed request. After December 15, 2015, no refunds will be available for any reason. Please understand this policy prior to signing up for the race! There are No Race Transfers or substitutions. Selling of your race entry slot is strictly prohibited. If you do sell your race slot, you will be disqualified from the race. Entry fees are not transferable to another person.
The racecourse and timeline can be changed at the race director’s discretion. All distances where determined GPS measurements.
There is not, at this time, a scheduled rain date. Rain, Shine or Snow the race will go on. Concerning inclement weather, the race director reserves the right to alter/modify the race/course for safety concerns. In the case of a “Natural Disaster"/Local Incident/Terrorist Act, there will be No Refunds of race entry fees. Each athlete must accept any such risk of his or her entry fee paid. There is no complementary race entry to a future race. All monies collected are used to develop and produce the event, including all race supplies, staffing, and administration. It is our intention to make every effort to produce a fair, safe and exhilarating event for all. Overall event safety will be the determining factor for event cancellation. Management further reserves the right to reject or accept any race entry.
